The Chiltern Bridge League is an association of local organisations with an interest in playing duplicate bridge primarily in team events. The league operates in a semicircular area with a radius of 17 miles and centred on Reading with venues lying close to or north of the M4. The league is a district league within the definition of the English Bridge Union and awards masterpoints. Participating organizations are not required to be affiliated to either the EBU or any county bridge association. The leagues events are open to non-members of the EBU. The standard of play is comparable to the lower levels of the county leagues but the  matches involve less travel. The league consists mainly of local bridge clubs but we also have one golf club and one school.

New teams are always welcome. Teams of Four will find that their Clubs will normally help them with the loan of equipment for matches particularly in the first year. Teams of four are not limited to members of a single organisation although the team will be associated with the Captain's club.

Our competitions are as follows:-

Teams of Eight      League for Teams representing affiliated clubs which play in a single division,

one match against all the other teams.

Teams of Four      League for Teams of Four which play in small divisions under the captains name.

Matches normally played in private homes.

Spring Cup           Teams of Four play in a small pool round-robin and the qualifying teams enter

                              the KO stage.

Elimination Pairs    Our only pairs event _ heats are held in clubs and qualifying pairs advance to the

grand final which is held at the end of April.

Summer Teams     A multiple teams event played at the end of July. The League's trophies are

                              presented at this event.
